i'm quite concerned as often when i'm breast feeding my dd the flow is fast and i think she breathes it in as afterwards she sounds very chesty and coughs a lot whilst she's feeding. any suggestions? is this normal or could it lead to something quite serious?

If she really is breathing it in (aspiration), it can cause serious problems. However, it may well just be that as the flow is fast she's having to work quite hard and it makes her cough a bit. If I drink quickly and a bit goes down the wrong way, I can continue to cough and sound chesty after clearing it. I guess you could contact your HV and ask her to come and listen and see what she thinks - or go to a BF cafe?

Check your local children's centre and see if they have a bf group.
