is this a DMSA scan?

If so, then they pop a cannula into the hand, and then put some (very slightly) radioactive stuff in. The staff at DD's hospital were so good at distraction that she didn't even notice it had happened.

The let you go off for a couple of hours while the stuff makes its way to the kidneys. Then back for a scan. The scanning equipment is quite big, and can be a bit claustrophobic, but they pop a DVD to pass the time.

that was it, DMSA, couldnt remember what they said.

if its radioactive, is it ok for me to go with her at 6months pregnant?

she had a check up today and is still presenting with some infection, though mild. normal scan was ok and no scarring.

Is it a Reno-scan she has to have ? If so they inject the dye which is low dose of radioactive liquid into her arm & she lies in a half tunnel type machine for 45 mins . I have this done once a year .

FloraFinching · 29/09/2010 12:25

I would check re the pregnancy. It really is a small amount of radiation, so I'm not sure whether it could affect others. The only advice I can remember being given was to double flush the loo after DD had a wee.

When i have my scan i have to stay away from pregnant women & young children so i stay in my mums for 24 hours afterwards & dh looks after the dc's at home . I think you should phone the hospital & get advice weather it would be safe for you to be there .

when ds had his dsma they told us he had to to stay away from pregant ladies and babies for 24 hours also.

My DD has similar scans but they call them MAG3. They inject the dye, do the scan and then inject something to flush it out of their system.

I was told that DD had to stay away from other children, babies and pregnant women for 24 hours after the procedure.

My DH used to take her when I was pregnant and DD2 was small. Me and DD2 would go and spend the night at a friends.
