Infection set in (mouth) after baby dd fell at weekend

Hi,

I posted the other day as my baby dd (15 months) has fallen and knocked her front teeth loose. There is also gum damage and the gum above her front right tooth appears to be dying and infected! ;-( Dentist said will heal and grow back, maybe not same as before. It looks awful, like a peice of cheese is stuck onto her gum (sorry if tmi.) She is on antibiotics and appears to be in very little discomfort. I just wandered if anyone had come across this, I have never seen anything quite like it. I am very worried and hope the antibiotics work quickly.

The bit that looks like cheese is probably a bit of gum which was torn and raw after the fall. As it heals it gets a layer of slough on it. If the area gets more swollen or hotter, or your dd gets a temperature those are signs the infection isn't responding to the antibiotics but I wouldn't worry, mouths look awful after trauma but they heal very quickly.

Thank you soooo much for the reply. What is Slough?(excuse my ignorance in this). The dentist said mouths heal very quicly too. I just didn't ask exactly what the cheese looking bit was. She said it would near enough go back to normal maybe slightly receeded gum in that area. Thanks again for reply.

it's the medical term for the cheesy bit! skins cells and other stuff.
