Anyone's DS had a hypospadias related foreskin reconstruction..?

Not that common so Im not expecting hundreds of replies, but thought it worth a go!

My DS had an op last week to correct his foreskin issues resulting from his (mild) hypospadias. (He wasnt circumcised, but had a foreskin created from excess willy skin he had) He is due back in hospital tomorrow to have his catheter out and bandages off. Can anyone let me know how painful this is likely to be? Will he be sedated at all? He is really quite distressed at the thought of it all.

Yes mine has, not much time to post now but it was not too distressing. He was 14 months though, sounds like your ds is older? Will try to come back later when children not being demanding!

Thanks for replying, it was fine in the end! DS is 4 and was very anxious about it (ok, so was I!)but in the end having everything removed was actually fairly pain free. Willy looks good, just have to take it easy for a bit. Phew!

Glad it went well. I have 2 boys who had hypospadias and had the procedure you describe. The removal of the catheter was the worst part in both cases (severely traumatic for ds1, less so for ds3 but still not pleasant). I am glad I didn't see this thread yesterday and respond honestly as it would have worried you unnecessarily.
