Could dry cough be an early symptom of chicken pox?

DD (2.2) was exposed to chicken pox 6 days ago. She spent the whole day and shared a drink with a little girl who was subsequently found to have the pox.

Last night she developed a very dry cough and sounds a bit wheezy. She woke up several times last night coughing and a bit distressed. She has a slightly runny nose but nothing major. Could this be a pox symptom or something else?

Please god it isn't asthma.

It could be. Especially if the first spots came up in her throat. spots can appear anywhere "inside" (technically it is still outside) and outside the body. If it is the pox she would be exhausted too before you can see the first spots/blisters coming.

Yes, could be.

Thanks. She has eaten a big bowl of porage and then asked for ice cream. So, clearly nothing too wrong. Will just need to wait and see.

Children are often poorly before the spots first appear, symptoms can range from general listlessness to a reunny nose to an upset stomach with diarohea. It can also take annything from a week to about 3 weeks for the spots to appear .
