strange thorn like small bristles stuck in 4 years olds leg

Hi - I look my 4 year old to the New Forest and he said someone stung his leg when he was playing. It just looked red so I thought it was just a nettle sting. But when I was giving him a bath I noticed very small black bristle type things stuck in the skin of the leg. They are very fine. DH took him to GP who said it was a rash and prescribed cream but I dont think she really looked at it properly. The black bristles have scrabbed over now and I dont know what to do - has anyone experienced this?

It could be one of those very tall weeds that you see on the side of rail tracks and in the country. Cannot think of the name now. How long ago did he get stung? If it was me, I would get a sterilised needle and tweezers and pick out the "stings" and retain them for examination. Go back to the GP or go to A&E and ask them to remove the bristles.
