Can anyone share their experience of their DC taking (or being prescribed) DESMOPRESSIN? (Positive or negative answers welcome!)

It has been mentioned by the enueresis clinic as a possible future treatment for dd

(It's likely that she's not producing Vasopressin,apparently - v dilute urine and early nighttime wetting)

I don't know much about it. Though I don't think it's on the cards just yet

How long did she have to take it for? Is it a nightly thing or can it be used on an adhoc basis? (ie for hols etc)

Dd is only 6.7 and I think they said they would wait until she was 7 before initiating treatment with it

Nightly. Then weaned off gradually, they need to be 7 for enuresis clinic but often referrals take a while so can be put in before 7

Glad they're considering Desmo; most children we prescribed it for did very well with it. You can use it on an ad hoc basis eg for sleepovers, Brownie camp etc but it can be worth giving it regularly to aid with the night time dryness process if the child is wetting nightly.

Desmo is licensed from age 5 so you don't have to wait until 7, but most clinics prefer waiting until 7 to start it.

You tend to see quite rapid results with it; they take it for 3 months then have a week off, then can restart it if needed. Side effects are few.

dd (10yo) has been prescribed Desmo, on an as and when basis (sleep overs and residential school trips etc)

has worked well for her, she tested it out at home first, did every thing she 'shouldn't' ie drinking fizzy, and squash/cranberry juice, drinking past 6 at night, and was dry.

She did have an itchy rash on her throat after taking it on 3 consecutive nights though, and this is one of the side effects but got rid of with anti histamine.

She is doing really well upping her drinks in the day but it is becoming evident that she either just doesn't wake up or isn't producing the hormone, as the early sleep-phase wetting continues (but is dry remainder of night)

I wonder about an alarm but think it might wake DD2 instead of her! (She is SUCH a heavy sleeper)
