My DD has been asking loads of questions about what goes on inside the body. She's 4 in June, quick on the uptake, and 'gets' our answers but wants something visual. Any recommendations?

Thanks

Robert Winston wrote a childrens physiology book, it's called 'What makes me me'. Ds liked it. It might be a little old for her though as there's alot in it, it doesn't just talk about physiology.

It looks fabulous but I think you're right, it's a bit old for her. I'll be squirreling the info away for a few years time though.

I had a book as a kid, called What You Eat And Where It Goes (from the Chipbook Club I recall - anyone else have those book clubs at school?) which had lots of illustrations, and I suppose I was looking for something like that, for younger kids, but covering the whole body.

Don't want much, do I...

I think books aimed at Key stage 1 children (5 years) are more appropriate as they are basic. It depends on your child though, you could try the web for pictures and just talk to her so you may not necessarily need a book. If you have some spare wallpaper then you could get her to lie down so you can draw around her, then cut out a basic heart/stomach/brain etc so you can place them on the picture?

We had a nice lift the flap Usborne book - this is the nearest I can find now, which might hit the spot.

That one looks great, thanks. Also found one just called Body, from DK, that may be similar. Mumsnet scores again :-)

Have you seen the Gooey Chewy Rumble Plop book? It's simply brilliant, with fantastic pop-ups and pull-outs and all sorts to show how the digestive system works.

We like Alive, the Ultimate pop-up Human Body Book by DK. First page you open up and a heart within a rib cage pops up and there is the sound of the heart beating. My 3.5 yo dd likes to look through it on her own.

My just-turned-4yo is rarely more than a few feet away from her Usborne First Encyclopedia of the Human Body. She loves it and has been enthralled by it for about 6 months now. It's a bit old for her so she's not going to grow out of it soon either. I like it too. Nice pictures, good explanations, simple catagories.

We've got that Usborne lift the flap book too, Dd was 4 when she got it and LOVES it. DH & I are both medical so she's been intrigued by bodily functions for a while .
