TBlue, is she doing the reading or being read to...?

What about My Naughty Little Sister, the shorter Roald Dahl books (Magic Finger, George's Marvellous Medicine, etc) or - as a one off - my favourite (as a child and still now) 'The little girl and the tiny doll'...?

Happy Reading!

thanks dolly - will look them up. she reads them herself but often likes to have parts read to her as well

Gobbolino the Witches Cat & The Little Wooden Horse are both nice

Astrosaurs Academy (easier reading than the original Astrosaurs series) - dinosaurs in astronaut school

Walker books do a 'Racing Reads' series, which are very much the same level as Rainbow Magic, but all by different authors, and I would say from the ones I've seen very much up to normal Walker quality standards. There's a list here. DD liked this one a lot and also this one

Miss happiness and Miss Flower and others by Rumer Godden

Enid Blyton's Naughty Amelia Jane stories - very much the same level, though not that much more exciting for adults!

Fat Puss - Harriet Castor.

Daisy and the trouble with ... there's about 4 or 5 of them now, very funny and much better written than Rainbow Fairies but not that much harder

your best bet is to go to your local library - they should have a 'younger readers' section with chapter books suitable for dc your dd's age
