Excitingly, there is going to be a Radio Four documentary about it tomorrow! At 11.30am. Looking at the Wikipedia article took me right back...

Yes!!

I wasn't living in England but it sounded so exotic ....

MinaLoy · 13/07/2009 18:07

Ah, neither were we - I remember a snowy scene that had us agog.

Yes. I was convinced I was going to find the gold rabbit. I got bored after a couple of weeks. Did anyone, in the end? Or was it all an elaborate hoax?

poppy34 · 13/07/2009 18:07

Yes - will try and record it. Have taken me back to

Lulumama · 13/07/2009 18:09

wow!! my auntie and uncle had a copy of the book, i remember spending hours poring over it.. i might try and get hold of a copy.it was mesmerising

VietnameseCobbler · 13/07/2009 18:10

no
all the droopy artistic girls had it.
Elizabeth O toole etc

Jux · 13/07/2009 18:10

I was given it as a present but I was an adult. Didn't try to do anything about it (far too busy getting pissed etc).

Just refreshing my memory on Wikipedia and it turns out someone "solved" it - but cheated! Williams' ex-girlfriend's gardener's next-door-neighbour or summat. And then two teachers actually did work it out cleverly. That's as far as I was able to read before childers summoned me........

acc to wikipedia it all got a bit sordid in the end

moondog · 13/07/2009 18:15

Someone had a copy in the boarding school I attended.
We pored over it for hours.

Yes. Loved the pics. Didn't have a CLUE about the mission. But the illustrations stayed with me. A treasure in themselves.

VietnameseCobbler · 13/07/2009 18:16

and mine
it was her
while playing jacks

Reading the solution, it was a bit of a gamble to bury something in England that depended on the sun shining on two specific days of the year.

The woman with the apron with all the pockets I used to find quite disturbing. And I still have a recurring dream about the girl swimming in the river.
