Would you let your 10 year old DD read 'Twilight'?

I had heard this was aimed at teenagers but she is itching to read it and probably the rest of the series...

She's a mature 10 year old with a precocious reading age but I'm not sure how detailed it gets about relationships.

Any Mners read it? What do you think? I would/should read it myself but I'm up to my eyeballs in work and study at he moment. Any advice appreciated .

twilight is quite an innocent book as in it has no sexual content and the other books follow in the same strain with even the sex scenes censored so if your DD is a mature 10yo then she would pobably really enjoy the series i cant wait for my DD to be able to share my love of the whole series

It is very strait-laced, comically so, in some instances as it seems to think pre-marital sex much more heinous than killing people - admittedly the victims were would-be murderers and sex attackers.

What I would hesitate about is presenting the heroine as a role model. She is alarmingly passive.

But it is a very good yarn and I expect your DD would enjoy it.

I have no problem with DD 11 reading it, however although I got irritated by it by the end and have only read the first one.

Looks like a thumbs-up from MN then, but I may give it a miss myself.

I wouldn't let her read 3 or 4 though, which she will want to do if she starts the series

My 10 yr old DD has read the whole series and declared them to be "even better than Harry Potter" which in our house is a BIG deal.

Gona, DD's favourites are the HPs too, we'll have to see if they get knocked off top spot

am abit late on this so your daughter may have started reading first book but i agree with yappy the third and fourth books contain swearing and the fourth has quite alot about sex. eg the reason the main character bella agrees to marry edward is because she wants to sleep with him!

I'd let my ten year old daughter read 'Twilight' with the agreement that she could read one book in the series per year or read them as the movies come out which amounts to about the same thing. Given the age of my oldest teens this is how they had to read Harry Potter and no one died from the suspense.

Yes, another great reason to stagger the introduction of these fine novels! So said daughter would not meet her demise with the 'Eclipse' until 12 years of age.
