Apparently The Very Hungry Caterpillar has been around for 40 years. My 2 year old can't get enough of it. What is it that is so appealing?

I think it's the holes in the book. DD has a play tunnel she insists is TVHC and which 'eats' her constantly, making her giggle. But the whole thing about it I guess is about metamorphosis - which is what kids do - they go from being babies to tots, then to kids so they see it all round them and it has a really positive end.

Well that would be right because I can remember it from Primary 1 [old git].

Wonderful book.

I love this book.It is so warming

Very simple brightly coloured pictures, lots of holes to poke and prod, lots of repetition and a wonderful transformation at the end.

Both my dc love this book.DD has GDD and it is one of her favourites, she always giggles at the butterfly at the end.

Fab book. I bought it for DD when DS was born, in German/English. She loved it.

The other books from Eric Carle are great as well.

The illustrations are wonderful.

For those interested, Puffin have done a little activity pack to coincide with the anniversary, which can be downloaded from here.
