Darren Shan Books - Are these suitable for a 9/10 Year Old Boy

My DS told me tonight that he wants some Darren Shan books for his imminenet 10th birthday - and that he is planning to get them next from the school library. I have just looked them up as I have not heard of them and they look very unsuitable for someone of his age to me - I can find reviews but not that give an indication of age. Does anyone know what age group they are intended for and if they are suitable for a just turning 10 boy. Many Thanks

I let my son read them and he is 11. We actually met Darren Shan at a Waterstones and he was lovely and when he explained the books it wasn't as bad as I thought. I think that it depends on your sons reading age as well. If he is interested then I would imagine he has an above average reading age.

Thanks Wannabe - puts my mind at rest I think it is the titles that somewhat startled me - he does have a good reading age and is mature I think in what he chooses to read he is just finishing the Amber Spyglass which he loves so perhaps these are not too far away - will despatch DH to the book shop for some closet behind the shelf page flicking. Regards
