Book recommednations for advanced 9.5yr old boy please and also for girl aged 7 to get her into reading - reluctant reader

My ds1 is 9.5 and adores reading. He devours book after book and we hvae now run out!! Trouble is I find an author he likes and stick to it as I'm too scared he won't carry on reading - he's only been so keen for about 6 months before which he wouldnt read at all. He loves Michael Morpugo books and has read the charlie bone series recently as well as Beast quest. any ideas what next please?> I thought Phillip Pulman but th ebooks all look fairly advanced as if they're more for teens.

Also his 7 yr old sister will not read and I'm looking for easy attractive books to tempt her in - tried the glitter fairly books whch just got carried around everywhere but not actually read!!!

Re your DD Just leave her, she will read when she wants to. If you put too much pressure on her to read she will just be put off.

My Ds is 13 and only started reading novels this summer and now he has become a bit of a bookworm.
Do you go to the library and let her choose books herself?
Also try a few audio tapes/cds (our library has a big choice), she might find some she likes and want to continue them on by reading them her self. This is what my DS did with Alex Rider.
Does she read comics or magazines, this is reading just as much as reading books.

lisalisa - ds is the same age as your ds1. He reads a lot (but also like yours, real immersive reading has been fairly recent - he hasn't been a big reader for that long); current/perennial favourites are:

Josh Doder's Grk series
Emil and the Detectives and sequels
Richmal Crompton's William books
Enid Blyton, Famous Five, Secret Seven, "Mystery of ..." series (get from library)
Philip Reeve, Mortal Engines series - but before that, Larklight and sequels - aimed a bit younger, and a bit cosier in consequence
Alex Rider, as suggested elsewhere
Emily Rodda's Deltora series (if he likes these, there are many!!)
Terry Pratchett

He liked the whole of the Harry Potter sequence of course, too
Molesworth ... he reads and re-reads and re-reads, completely dog-eared

For yoir DD you could try some Allan Ahlberg books - there are 4 about the Gaskitt family which are very easy going, broken into small manageable chunks, lots of pictures and funny. Things like The Man Who Wore All His Clothes.

You could also have a look at the Daidy and The Trouble With... series. Again they are more funny and entertaining than the fairy books.

ds1 is 9 he's just read
King Arthur Trilogy and really enjoyed it...
but dh bought him the way of the warrior at the school book fair and he has totally loved it, can't put it down. I know, I've just tried to turn his light off

Thanks all - off to check these out now. Bink - just bought Larklight over the wekend - thought it looked advanced actually for a 9yr old rather than gentle intro but ds is busy devouring so must be ok!!!
