My daughter's friend was raving about it at the w/e- said it was the best book she'd ever read- she's 11.

Yes, I haven't read it but it was on the Carnegie Medal shortlist a few years ago. This year it's on the list of books that year 7 students can choose from for free. Elizabeth Laird is a well-respected author.

I've read it. Yes, it's good. Thought provoking but also an exciting read.

My son read it when he was 12 and loved it. He then read "a little piece of ground' which is about a Palestinian boy living in Gaza (unfortunately relevant at the moment) and loved it too. Ms Laird writes very thought provoking books from a child's point of view.
