Best book of Arthurian legends

DS1 is gripped by Merlin on TV and wants to read some stories of when Arthur was king. Any ideas which book would be best? He is 7, with a reading age of 9+, but it wouldn't matter if they were a bit harder than this, as I'd quite like to read them to him. Loads on Amazon but I'd like a personal recommendation if poss!

Good idea sphil - my ds's would like this as well.

This one is a classic, wouldn't have thought you could go wrong with it.

Myself, I love The Once & Future King, but the Sword in the Stone doesn't meet your DS's request for stories about when he was king, and I would have thought the others were too old for a 7 yr old.

"The Orchard Book of the Legends of King Arthur" by Andrew Matthews and Peter Utton was a big hit with my then 9-year-old.

My DS1 is another knights, castles and Arthur fiend, and I saw this in Waterstones last week. It looks good and I shall probably be buying it for Christmas.

We found The Sword and Stone really heavy going. We read it together as a bedtime story and even DH and I struggled with some of the language. DS was 7 also with a reading age of 9+.
