Good 'chapter books' for a 5yo - Milly Molly Mandy?

DD has just really got into longer books with chapters. She's 5 but has a very advanced vocabulary and could easily cope with books above her age (although she's a bit sensitive - she found The BFG a bit disturbing, though that may have just been because I was unsure about it). So, any good suggestions for books? We're reading The Enchanted Wood at the moment but it's getting on my nerves - just stop going up the bloody tree if you're going to encounter problems every time, FFS Someone suggested Milly Molly Mandy but I've never read any of those - are they any good for a 5yo? Any other suggestions welcome, thanks!

Thanks everybody, loads of suggestions there! I was obsessed with The Secret Seven when I was younger but I hadn't thought of them for DD's age. Charlie & The Chocolate Factory is a great idea! I wondered about James & The Giant Peach but don't like the idea of reading about a child's parents dying or about the aunts being cruel to him - is that silly?!

The Tiara Club books- about princesses at boarding school.
The Magic Kitten books- about a magic panther from a secret kingdom who disguises himself as a kitten and performs magic to help the girls who look after him (a different girl every book)

Can't remember any more detail and don't really want to go trailing through her room for author names at the moment.

My 5 and 6 year olds are really enjoying the Little House on the Prairie books at the moment

DS loves the Famous Five - we are on book 10, only another eleven to go, and he can't get enough of them! I always add in a little bit of feminism when Julian's going on about the inadequacies of girls, mind you

MMM, My Naughty little sister, Magic Faraway Tree, Secret Seven, Pippi Longstocking.

All been mentioned before, but all great chapter/short story books.

No suggestions but rofl at "just stop going up the bloody tree"

Pippi Longstocking - still very 'fresh' and funny
