The Alex Rider series is good.

Depends on the boys and their interests.

Some of this may sound sexist but I have worked in schools and observed tween and teen boys.

Wimpy Kid - beloved for light relief
(auto)biographies of athletes or whichever celebrities they follow
sci-fi/fantasy (Jurassic Park? The Hobbit? The Hunger Games? Percy Jackson?) - not my genre but others will be along with better suggestions.

'fact books' - All the fastest cars in the world or 1000 facts about the human body or all about the elements/periodic table;
David Macaulay has written a great series on 'how things work' including Cathedral, The Underground, Castle, Pyramid, Toilet (yes, really)
I had a pupil who was into birdwatching and read several 'Birds of UK' or similar plus books about foreign birds. He was extremely fortunate and his family went on a trip to Africa which included birdwatching for him.
Thriller/murder mysteries - I taught a major Frederick Forsyth (The Jackal) fan. Also, I recommend Lee Child and Michael Connolly (the Lincoln Lawyer)
outdoor extreme adventure - I survived an avalanche on the Himalayas type books

If you can, drag them to the library and turn them loose. Take them to the different sections - not just fiction - and show them the travel guides, the 'how to' books, the natural sciences (elements, animals, planets)

My teen DS has enjoyed Maze Runner, Divergent and Mortal Engines.

Are these your DS’ @suns7370? If not, do you know what they’ve read recently?
