I loved the Trebizon series at that age.

Needmorelego · 30/05/2026 23:13

Does she have a favourite genre?
I was obsessed with the Little House on the Prairie series at that age.

Are you able to give any more info about her interests, OP? Current book likes and dislikes? If she loves reading, it might be sensible to talk to her parents about what she hasn't read/is hoping for.

Unless you have an idea of the type of book she's into I'd probably buy her a Waterstone's book token, bring her in one Saturday to spend it and then treat her to lunch. There are so many great books but it all depends on what she enjoys reading.

Chronicles of Narnia?

Also there is an out of print but there’s copies on world of books “the ship that flew” by Hilda Lewis

something less traditional - the dork diaries

My DD loved Judith Kerr's "When Hitler Stole Pink Rabbit" at that age.

The Lottie Brooks books are great for that age group.

Would second the Lottie Brooks suggestion.

Is she a good reader? My 11 year old who is an avode reader absolutely adored Alone by Megan Freeman. Its a survival story about a girl who wakes up and everyone from her town has gone. Its told in poetry form so a bit different.

Other than that she's reading murder most unladylike series and the new spy series by the same author. Plus rereading the his dark materials trilogy.

What did you buy in the end @Murplen?

Murplen · 24/07/2026 11:31

@ExplodingSmittensi found out she was reading a Tracey Beaker book so I found a book set of other books written by Jacqueline wilson - her mother said she’s been enjoying them
