Moving on from Diary of a Wimpy Kid

Ds7 has been obsessed with these books. He’s v mature and a brilliant reader. We now want to move on to something new but nothing is taking his fancy.
Ideally something with a more positive role model than the miserable / cynical main character in wimpy kid but he does love something funny!

Any suggestions please? 🙏🏻

Mine moved on to How to Train Your Dragon after Wimpy Kid. Then Percy Jackson after that. I read The Hobbit to him at around that age too.

ETA he also read some Suzanne Collins books (yes of Hunger Games fame) called Gregor the Overlander.

Maybe have a look at Tom Gates books by Liz Picton, although my kids didn’t really get into the wimpy kid books, so not sure if it’s a ‘step up’?

He sounds like a wonderful young man. My eight year old enjoys the Treehouse Books, he also likes the Stephen Mangan books like The Unlikely Rise of Harry Sponge and The Day I Fell down the Toilet. Has he read the Roald Dahl books?

The Storey Treehouse books by Andy Griffiths

Percy Jackson and Loki were a big hit for a while here. Although the wimpy kids book remain a firm favourite nd comfort read many years on, really wish he'd branch out a little but if that's or nothing, I'll take it!

Thanks so much! He loved the Treehouse books! I will look up the day I fell down the toilet! Sounds like something that would spark his interest 🤣

Thank you everyone. He’s read Roald Dahl, Tom Gates and wasn’t into the dragon books sadly but I will check out all the other suggestions. Brilliant to have some new ideas 🙂
