Am I the only one who didn't realise that Lauren Child hadn't written most of the Charlie and Lola books?

Mentioned here. I feel foolish. And somehow betrayed...

I'm afraid I did notice the "by so and so and so and so, based on a concept [or something] by Lauren Child". but I did feel a tiny bit betrayed. I don't really know why.

a children's book franchise - all the glory, pots of cash and not much work. perhaps I'll get me one.

Nooooooo!!!!!!! I definately feel cheated.

Interestingly my kids are 4,4 and 3 and have gone off them slightly as they seem a bit samey iykwim. We had that bag with a selection in and when selecting new books in Waterstones I suggested more Charlie&Lola and they weren't keen, but that might have been because there were so many other lovely books around.

MilaMae · 28/05/2008 19:39

Definitely

I knew (smug) - there are only about three - Tomato, School and Not Sleepy I think - and I think they are by far the best! They say "a Lauren Child original". The others seem to come from the TV rather than vice-versa.
My daughter loves them but she is only 2- can see how they get a bit tired by 3 or 4.

WendyWeber · 10/06/2008 16:57

"Although I don't write the books, I make sure that I have a lot of input and control about what goes out under my name," says Child. "The books are written after a lot of discussions between me, the TV producer and the scriptwriters. It's a very collaborative approach."

Well why doesn't she just write them then? It'd probably be quicker!

MaryAnnSingleton · 10/06/2008 16:57

yes, I'm with you there WendyWeber

That's a bit of a disappointment to hear, my kids love C&H. Is this on a par with Fern Britten and her stomach band?

Clayhead · 10/06/2008 17:12

dh spotted this after we had one of the 'new' ones (not Tomato, Sleepy or School). He said it read differently and so checked the book over and found it wasn't by her.

We haven't bought another to be honest, felt a bit cheated and there are loads of other great books out there!

dd loves Clarice Bean and Hubert Horatio though.

Charmander · 10/06/2008 18:15

Yes they are all Lauren Child - well worth every penny, go for it.

funnypeculiar · 10/06/2008 18:17

Yes - had noticed it on the frontispage (sp?). I amazed by how few she wrote before handing it over...
