dd brought home a reading book from school about a whale who'd just given birth and was so exhausted she was drowning, while the protagonist family watched. i was rather about whether this was appropriate reading for a 5 year old but then burst into tears and couldn't carry on reading

please tell me i'm not alone in crying over kids books. i always get a terrible lump in my throat towards the end of the mousehole cat too. there's definitely something about reading aloud that makes it worse.

i am alone aren't i?

Despite being completely stonefaced when reading most 'How Much I Wuv You' 'You're My Fwend Fowever' children's books (ds always seems to pick them in the library. Hard cheddar.) I have to confess that No Matter What causes me to blub every single time.

I read a Mick Inkpen one called 'Nothing' about a little stuffed toy that got left behind in a house & it didn't know what it was. I cried. Have never been able t o read it to DS!

The Tale of Peter Rabbit! Its harrowing reading, honestly, once Peter starts to cry and sob it sets me off, I've had to hide it in the bookcase as I can't bear to read it

Blub

I Promise I'll Find You by Heather Patricia Ward. I've never read such a heartbreaking children's book! About what a mummy would do to find her child if he ever went missing.

Definatley Goodbye Mog, not read any other sad ones yet but we are still only at the cloth book/lift the flap stage so far, but Im sure I will cry at loads- I cried the other week when Danielle gave her baby to Bree- so I am very soft

HensMum · 24/05/2008 20:38

The Miffy one where Grandma Bunny dies. sob
And I found myself getting overly emotional at the end of Winnie the Pooh when Christopher Robin is going off to school.

I made my big sister cry on her 30th birthday by giving her the last page of "Big Sister and Little Sister" in a frame. It's a picture book about two sisters that someone gave my sister when I was born and the last page says something like "Little Sister will always look after Big Sister because Big Sister taught her how"

fiodyl · 24/05/2008 20:38

In Desperate Housewives I forgot to say

Olihan · 24/05/2008 20:42

Goodbye Mog. I read it standing in WHSmith and had tears running down my face. I was quite heavily pg at the time so I had a bit of an excuse but I doubt I could ever read it to the dcs.

castille · 24/05/2008 20:42

The last story in The House at Pooh Corner, when Pooh and Christopher Robin walk to a Special Place in the woods and talk about CR going off to school and growing up and all that, and all the innocent childhoody stuff comes to an end
