DD 11 is really interested in history. She loved horrible histories and will watch some documentaries.

Can anyone recommend any books that would be suitable for her.

Depends on reading age - The Roman mysteries are excellent, by Caroline Lawrence!

Suzie Edge has done 2 children's books called History Stinks, but they might be a bit young for your daughter?
Greg Jenner has also done a series of children's books called Totally Chaotic History and another book called You Are History. He hosts a podcast called Your Dead To Me on BBC which is very good and very funny. The radio edits, without the swears are available to listen to if your daughter is interested.
There's also The Secret Lives of Women Spies by Charlotte Philby, which I think is mostly about WWI and WW2 spies.

Emma Carroll books?

I second Emma Carroll if you think she'll be into historical fiction. Perfect for the 9-12 pre-teen market.

The My Story series of books. Each is told from the point of view of an individual who was alive at the relevant period eg Mill Girl, Sophie's Secret War. The books are by different authors - I know one of them is Vince Cross.
A few of the Michael Morpurgo books have a historical background eg War Horse.
The Boy In The Striped Pyjamas by John Boyne.
Little House On The Prairie series by Laura Ingalls Wilder.

I've just bought Dominic Sanders' series - non-fiction - for my 12 year old following a recommendation. They've just arrived and look great.
