The elves always leave a book under the newly decorated tree... my DC are 12 (loves reading fiction) and 15 (reads comics/graphic novels and non fiction). Anything suitable for older children?

Does it have to be Christmas themed?

I just bought a book called "the rabbit hole" which my two (aged 11 and 13) are squabbling over. All sorts of "cool facts"

Older one wanted lots about North Korean defectors as well. And a history book about WW1, as well as some Japanese books that are big on booktok like the Morisaki bookstore ones.

Yes! Or, at the very least, winter themed. Still open to other suggestions for their actual Christmas presents but the one that goes under the tree is always a Christmas themed book.

I love The Lion, the Unicorn and Me by Jeanette Winterson.

For you 15yo, maybe Star Wars: A Vader Family Sithmas or Jingle Hells: Surviving the 12 Pains of Christmas

The Dark is Rising by Susan Cooper,
The Children of Green Knowe by Lucy M Boston,
Moominland Midwinter by Tove Jansson,

The Adventure of the Christmas Pudding by Agatha Christie,
A Highland Christmas by MC Beaton,
Silent Night: The Remarkable Christmas Truce of 1914 by Stanley Weintraub.

Does it have to be a new one?

The Rat a Tat mystery (Enid Blyton)
Winter Holiday (Arthur Ransome)
Wings over Witchend (Malcolm Saville)
Black Hunting Whip (Monica Edwards)
Fell Farm Christmas (Marjorie Lloyd)
Jo of the Chalet School (Elinor Brent Dyer)
White Boots (or Skating shoes) (Noel Streatfield)

Are all winter/Christmas stories I love reading in the winter.

Hogfather (Terry Prattchett)
