I’ve just finished reading King Solomon’s Mines to DS. We both enjoyed it.

I need ideas for what to read to him next. Not sci-fi- DH has that covered.

I have a daughter, but we have been reading some classics together, so I can explain things she doesn't understand, like words for clothing that are not worn now, or old etiquette, word phrasing etc.

Just read The Railway Children, and now reading A Little Princess. She was inspired to read that after reading for herself, Tilly and the Book Wanderers. Also read Murder on the Orient Express, The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe, The Hobbit.

Murder on the Orient Express is a good idea @WeirdPookah .

DS loved the Chronicles of Narnia.

DS and I have enjoyed Just William, Tom’s Midnight Garden, Five Children and It and we’ve just started Northern Lights.

DS and I both loved The Explorer by Katherine Rundell.

Phillip Pullman is an excellent suggestion.
We’ve both enjoyed the other latest ideas.

Where Eagles Dare by Alistair McLean. Such a fun rollicking adventure.

However, the kids (9,11 and 12) are struggling a lot with how you don’t know exactly what’s happening and who is bad and who is good until well into the book. Too many double and triple agents! Still, we will persevere.
