Dog Man and Cat Kid Books

I have seen lots of recommendations for these Dav Pilkey books, and wondered if someone could advise if it would be best to read the Dog Man books before the Cat Kid ones, or if Cat Kid is a stand alone series? Looking to but for my great nephew, who very much prefers cats to dogs but don't want to spoil the reading order.

My dc picked his first Dog Man and his first Cat Kid book from the library at the same. He loves cats more too. He read Dog Man (for whom the ball rolls) pretty quickly. The cats in that story have quite a bug part.

He didn't quite get into Cat Kid yet, so not sure it's as engaging.

Stand alone.
