What age group are you after?

mittenandthekitten · 19/08/2023 16:44

My two kids are 8 and 12. We have seen a few but I'd like to try a new author that's maybe trying to get their break lol

Try some from the Branford Boase long list. Some are 9-12 and some 13+ so check age recommendations on Amazon.

Not a very new one, but my ds loved this one, from someone just starting out:
COLOURS OF RAIN: Amazon.co.uk: Clarke, Jenni, Clarke, Jenni, Morris, Ellen, Prentice, Louise, Clarke, Jenni, Clarke, Martin: 9798648547155: Books

She's written a dragon one too, which looks good but I haven't read it.

My 6 year old daughter and 10 year old son really enjoyed the story. I hope you enjoy it if you do choose to read it.

Can I recommend a Juvenile fiction book that I published this year. I am a first time author and longtime mumsnetter. I would appreciate the support.

It's a dystopian novel that follows young teens struggling to hold their families together after a mysterious group of elites seize power and around the world and subject the citizens to authoritarian rule. It pulls in events such as climate change and the pandemic. But mainly it is about the strong ties of family and family loyalty. You can find it here https://www.amazon.co.uk/One-Percenters-Christine-Kilfoil/dp/B0C6BQV1D9/ref=sr_1_1?crid=ZTWBT3ZRRP8W&keywords=the+one+percenters+by+kilfoil&qid=1698135398&sprefix=the+one+percenters+by+kilfoil%2Caps%2C86&sr=8-1

Martin Stewart has been a YA author for a few years. He now writes children's books. My daughter and I loved his new series.

Bridget Vanderpuff and the Baked Escape and Bridget Vanderpuff and the Ghost Train are both amazing. Perfect for readers 8-12.

Hello,

I wanted to share a fantastic children's book I recently discovered on Amazon. It's titled 'Mumkin & Yumkin Go Dancing' and it's by a new author, Leon Oram. This book is a delightful read with a meaningful story and adorable illustrations that my son thoroughly enjoyed. What's even better is that a portion of the book's profits goes to children's charities, making it a win-win for readers.

If you're on the lookout for a wonderful book to share with your little ones, I highly recommend giving this one a read!

There are some fabulous new authors being published by the major publishers but as they not celebrities they are naturally lesser known. Why not look on review sites such as The Books we love page on the charity readforgood website or the Reading Zone

Hi everyone, I am a 16 year old author who has recently published a kid's book called 'Half Of My Heart' mainly for children aged 2-7. All of the illustrations were handdrawn by me and I wrote the story- it took a very long time and a lot of hard work. If anyone is looking for a sweet kid's book by a new author, it is currently on Amazon for £6.50 as a paperback and £3.21 for kindle, and has a couple reviews under it! Thank you so much- I've attached a link: https://amzn.eu/d/08CuSKKc

Love this book! My kids thoroughly enjoyed it, as did I!

Have you tried browsing the kickstarter publishing section?

The Rebel Girls series came from there, which my DD liked, but you have to be prepared to take a bit of punt as you cant flick through as you would in a bookshop.

A lot are a bit corny for my kids taste, but Ive backed a couple of graphic novels they liked. Currently watching one that looks to be doing to nursery rhymes what Revolting Rhymes did to fairy stories. Well, either that or its a clothing brand - bit hard to tell! 😂- but the yt video made my youngest laugh...

Harleen and Andrew Cook are upcoming and have two different books currently released!

A super fun Christmas Book that's basically Santa but a pirate called Captain Whitebeard - it has lots of mini stories in it!

and then a upcoming series, with the first one being a graphic novel about social media use and its effect of food - tis called the dark side of food! Teaches kids not to listen to what that see on social media! - But as a graphic novel, its very creative!

You can find them on their website or on amazon!

Hi everyone,

I have used Mumsnet for many years, admittedly a lurker rather than a poster. Whatever I needed advice on luckily someone had already started a thread about it, which was always greatly appreciated.

I came across this post and wanted to recommend my ebook titled eleven which has just been published! It’s my first book and I enjoyed writing it so much!

Being a Mum I know some of the topics that come up with younger children, so I wrote this book about a girl turning eleven and starting Secondary School! So it’s ideal for girls aged 8-10 who are excited about the transition.

It’s about all the ups and downs of starting Senior School. Drama of friendships, fitting in but always keeping true to yourself!

It’s available on Amazon the link is below! Love for anyone to take a look!
Thanks in advance! (🤗)
