Novels about Rome or Pompeii

We’re taking 9yo DS to Pompeii and Rome in October. I thought it would be nice to find him some fiction based in one or the other.
Does anyone know of any?

Another recommendation for the Roman Mysteries!

I'd agree about the Roman Mysteries, but if you have a dc who is sensitive some of the later ones can get a bit graphic for that age.
In particular there's a scene, I can't remember which book, but it describes "sport" in the amphitheatre which has quite a detail description, for that age, of the killing of a criminal.

Definitely recommend the earlier ones, and I think the BBC did a serial of them too.

YY to the ROman mysteries especially the early ones. SImon Scarrow (highly rated author for adult books on the Roman legions) also has a series for children. Simon Turney (another writer of legionary books for adults) has a couple of childrens books - Pirate Legion and Crocodile Legion I think. Terry Deary has a few and there is one called Escape from Pompeii but I'm not sure who by. Rosemary Sutcliffe's Eagle of the 9th remains a classic of course. You might also look for non fiction books for children - myths and archaeology.

Another vote for the Roman Mysteries. I think they were made into a TV series too.

Not a novel, but '24 hours in Ancient Rome' by Philip Matyszak is packed with interesting facts about the daily life of Romans.
It's only 99 pence for the Kindle edition at the moment.

Roman Mysteries it is then. Thank you.
