Is Secret Diary of Adrian Mole still ok?

I loved these books, made me laugh out loud when I was young. Thought I would get them for DS(11) for Xmas. Have the books stood the test of time?
Sometimes the humour in these 1980s books doesn't translate well for modern teenagers.

I remember his Pandora obsession, and was he on about wanting to touch her boobs a lot or was that something I imagined?

Still remember the bit where his dad jumps out bed when he hears the Falklands have been invaded by Argentina. Then going back to bed when he realises the Falklands aren't off the top of Scotland
