Chapter book / short stories to read to DC 7&11

Hello,
I feel like this may be impossible but I'm looking for a chapter book to read each night to my DC when on holiday. Something funny perhaps but open to any ideas at all. Both read widely and usually have a chapter book read to them separately. At the moment 7yo is having Pongwhiffy and 11yo having The Hitchhiker's Guide To The Galaxy.
Any ideas welcome. I know older one likes Bill Bryson (I read it aloud so edit language) but I'm not sure little one would enjoy it as much.
Thank you!

Thank you, we have read some of those already but I will have a look at the others. Some great ideas!

Pamela Butchart books (Wigglebottom primary, my headteacher is a vampire rat, etc)

Wayside School books by Louis Sachar)

Pamela Butchart is a firm favourite here. I'd not heard of Wayside School but it looks fun. Thank you.

Biggles, The Hobbit, Jeeves and Wooster for the 11 year old? Some Terry Pratchett even?

Have you/they read childrens classics like The Children of the New Forest, When Hitler Stole Pink Rabbit, The Eagle of the Ninth?

Edge Chronicles
Swallows and Amazons
Maudlin Towers by Chris Priestley
How to Train your Dragon

Just wanted to say thanks for all the ideas. I've ordered them both a couple for reading to themselves and also some for me to read to them.
I love seeing them enjoy books so this has made me very happy indeed!
