Fantastic books for 3 year olds

Which books do you recommend for a 3 year old?

I'm looking for something with a good plot, maybe funny, something that appeals to adults as much as kids (because I will be reading it over and over!!)

I'm so bored with the books we pick up from the library!

The Great Dog Bottom Swap
The Crocodile Who Didn't Like The Water

Just three or nearly four?

For a nearly four, I'd recommend Claude books by Alex T Smith. Very short chapter books, but about the same length as a longer picture book (and highly illustrated).

The Pirates Next Door
The Witch's Cat and The Cooking Catastrophe
Owl Babies
There’s A Snake In My School
After The Storm
Poo in the Zoo
The Cat in the Hat
The Tiger Who Came To Tea
Elmer
Rainbow Fish
Burglar Bill
Five Minutes’ Peace
Funnybones

The Dinosaur Space Rescue by M.J.Jones

It's a rhyming book about dinosaurs who travel through space, learning about the value of gratitude.

My sons (3 and 6) absolutely adore it.

The text is even colour coded to the characters so I can 'do voices' :P

It's such a wonderful book. I got it from Amazon when doing my latest Bulk Buy. It's the one with three dinosaurs in Astronaut helmets on the front jumping in space

My 3 year old loves The Disgusting Sandwich.
Any book by Julia Donaldson is also a winner in our house!

QueenCarrot · 23/03/2022 17:56

The Oi! books

Any Lynsey Dodd/Hairy Maclary books

Winnie the Witch books

Not sure if you can still find them, but
Harry the Dirty Dog/Harry by the Sea/No Roses for Harry
The Monster Bed/The Monster Storm

Richard Scarry books are wonderful for this age and Nick Sharratt 'You Choose' was alway a favourite.

Anything by Shirley Hughes or Judith Kerr wins over my 4 year olds x

Oh yes , Alfie and Annie Rose, Lucy and Tom, and of course Dogger all much loved, as is Mog

Jane Hissey books also a favourite, but perhaps those are better for slightly older children. (Though my daughter had ‘Old Bear’ on tape (obviously many moons ago now!) and listened to it from a very young age. It was her going to bed story and she fell asleep to it every night.
