How to access free Kindle Kids + books?

DS(8) got a kindle for Christmas, with 1 year of Amazon Kindle Kids + which is supposed to give voracious reader DS access to over a thousand books for free. Except I can't bloody figure out how to access them (either from his kindle or within our amazon account).

Can anyone advise please? It seemed such a good idea but we can't get it to work.

Bumping as i'd like to know too. I have found the fire not user friendly, but maybe I'm just too used to Apple! Does yours take ages to think after clicking on each app etc.? I'm not loving it but it is a lot cheaper than an iPad!

Have you got a specific kids profile set up on the kindle? We found that it would only allow access to the kids+ catalogue if you use a kids profile - which is annoying.
Unless anyone knows another solution?

I think so... it lets us set an age range

Seven201 this is an actual Kindle. We do have 2 fire tablets they use for games and videos on the move, but they're 5 + years old now so not a great example. They were always a lot clunkier than an iPad but given both have cracked screens, I'm happy I didn't pay iPad prices.

I think I registered the kindle to my email address and got an email that allowed me to activate the 1 year unlimited subscription. It's linked to my account but he can only download the free kids books without putting in my password (which he doesn't have)
