My son has asked for books on these two people - inspired by Horrible Histories. Can anyone recommend any? I can only find books aimed at younger primary age or adult.

I think I read Mary Renault’s Fire from Heaven at that age. Or could that be one you read to him? It’s fantastic!

In the Footsteps of Alexander the Great by Michael Wood.
Not written for children, but based on a TV series, it follows the path of Alexander’s conquering journey from Greece to India.
I would think that the language was quite accessible for an interested ten year old.

I'd say 10 would be a bit too young for Fire from Heaven. More appropriate for YA. It is fantastic though.

Really, @BlueChampagne? Because of the violence or the gay relationship?

I definitely read it in Year 6, but missed the gay relationship completely!

(As I did the one in Love in a Cold Climate and the lesbian mistresses in the Chalet School...)

Well, I wouldn't have got so much out of it in Y6 than I did when I was older.
