If we enjoyed The Lion and the Unicorn

I recently read The Lion and the Unicorn to my DC age 6.

For anyone who doesnt know, it's an illustrated book by Shirley Hughes about a ww2 evacuee who goes to the countryside.

DC enjoyed it and it prompted lots of thinking about british history, being different, getting through hard times.

Just wondering if there are other kids books that capture real life events well that are suitable for a 6yo who hasnt quite moved to chapter books yet.

Thanks!

Here realfood.tesco.com/recipes/spring-greens-and-butter-bean-pot-pie.html I’m using more leeks than greens, hence why it’s renamed!
