Can anyone recommend a book to explain santa etc?

Title pretty much says it all- I'm after a childrens book to read to my 22 month son about santa etc.

I'm not after a religion based story, I want a kind of 'twas the night before christmas' feel but a little easier to explain?

Can anyone recommend anything? as I can't wait for the magic to begin when hes a bit older!

Father Christmas

Surely not the Raymond Briggs one for a not-quite-two-year-old?! It's brilliant for older children, who have developed a bit of cynicism and a more sophisticated sense of humour, but it ain't going to convey the wonder of stockings, presents etc to a toddler. I remember being a bit confused by the grumpy version of Father Christmas at the age of about 10!!

Spot's Magical Christmas is a great story, involving a lost sleigh, found by Spot, who gets the obligatory visit to Santa's workshop. And if you get it on CD, the reindeer are wonderfully camp! Might be a bit old for him, but will last a couple of years.

But I would second the library idea - ours had loads of Christmas books last year, including some beautiful picture books.

SHHH and Careful Santa both by Julie Sykes and Tim Warnes are both lovely stories. Santa is doing his rounds and tripping over cats etc falling off see saws
