child likes adventure, crime. not too gory.
ideally with strong female and male characters.

The same as English speaking teenagers - in translation or in the original.

The books of Ursula Poznansi (e.g. Erebos, Thalamus, Acquila) are extremely popular. They're mainly thrillers. She may not be on the list referenced above because she is Austrian.

You are right - but deutschsprachige Autoren didn't give me a list.
I had a look at my DC's book shelves, but he reads mostly English, so no help.

that's a great list.

the english ones that particular teenager has already read in english...harry potter, hunger games, maze runner, michael mupurgo...
translations are often great but not quite as immersive.
