My DD (5.5) likes historical stories and myths and has always really liked going to places like Hampton Court.

Is there any nice historical fiction that either she could read (which would have to be pretty simple chapter books) or slightly more complex that I could read to her? She feels too young for Rosemary Sutcliffe (am probably showing how out of date I am)!

Anything involving WWII, Victorians or the Tudors would be particularly great because she already knows a tiny bit but would love any recommendations.

The Magic Treehouse series is like 100 books long and is about a brother and sister who travel through time on adventures. Very simpe chapter books and there is one on almost any topic or time period

I read Cue for Treason by Geoffrey Trease when ds was 6yo and he absolutely loved it.

There's also a fair number of books like The Secret Garden, Green Knowe etc which are historical now, but weren't necessarily when written.

yes that’s a very good point

Thank you so much everyone for the great recommendations - loads to check out!
