Romance novels for 16 yo DD

sweetkitty · 11/07/2020 20:26

16yo DD has asked for some nice romance novels for her birthday, some nice falling in love coming of age type of thing. Says she’s doesn’t want anything nasty and smutty.

So nothing hardcore to make her blush

Any recommendations

Anything by Nancy Mitford. Start with Love in a Cold Climate

tessiegirl · 12/07/2020 01:11

Point romance
The Islanders (formally known as the making out series) by Katherine Applegate

BlueSuedeStiletto · 12/07/2020 01:15

A Little Lovesong by Michelle Magorian. Loved it as a teen. It's a wartime coming of age story

lapofhonour5 · 12/07/2020 01:21

Georgette Heyer! The most gorgeously romantic Regency stories with great heroines and very entertaining. I loved them in my teens.

Where the Crawdads Sing

Doyouwantanothercuppa · 12/07/2020 02:26

Anything by Nicholas Sparks

Rebeccasmoonnecklace · 12/07/2020 02:28

The Selection series by Kiera Cass.

Firefretted · 12/07/2020 02:44

Any Eva Ibbotson books for older readers. Lovely romances and really well-written

PolkadotsAndMoonbeams · 12/07/2020 02:44

The Eva Ibbotson ones are nice, mostly set between the world wars.

My favourites are probably The Secret Countess and The Morning Gift, and if she likes ballet she'll probably like A Company of Swans.

I Capture The Castle by Dodie Smith. Absolutely perfect.

PolkadotsAndMoonbeams · 12/07/2020 02:46

Snap Firefretted. Grin

There's also Ella Enchanted, which is a nice retelling of Cinderella with a bit of a twist.

Judy Blume does some nice stuff for older girls.

Osquito · 12/07/2020 13:23

Seconding: A Little Lovesong

  • Francesca Lia Block’s Dangerous Angels (which is a collection of her Weetzie Bat stories)
  • Guitar Highway Rose
BlueChampagne · 13/07/2020 13:10

Daphne du Maurier: Frenchman's Creek, Jamaica Inn

Taytotots · 10/08/2020 02:36

Adele Geras' Egerton Hall trilogy. The first is 'The Tower Room'. Coming of age/romance stories loosely based on fairy tales. Or Bilgewater - Jane Gardam - my favourite book as a teenager (funny coming of age though more than true romance type stuff). Second Eva Ibbotson and 'I Capture the Castle' too.

EmmaGrundyForPM · 10/08/2020 02:47

The Greengage Summer was my favourite book when I was about 15/16.

CanIKondo · 10/08/2020 04:37

Georgette Heyer books are wonderful. Also second I capture the castle and the greengage summer.

Judith McNaught has lovely novels and are suitable for a 16 year old (my opinion)
