No. 1 Ladies' Detective Agency question

BlueberriesOnAStick · 10/07/2020 00:10

I've seen the No. 1 Ladies' Detective Agency series recommended on here a few times. Do they need to be read in order or can my daughter start with any book? Because my local library has one but it's not the first book in the series. Thanks!

You can read them out of order but there are background stories that run throughout.

They're not actually children's books though, although probably not unsuitable if she's old enough to understand the themes etc Smile

I love this series and would say they really should be read in order as stories are revisited and you get to know the characters as the series progresses.

Would also agree they aren't children's books.

Lovely books, but definitely not for children.

They aren't children's books. How old is DD?

Rape and DV are topics.

Prettybluepigeons · 10/07/2020 00:28

Not children's books!
Quite mature themes albeit dine in a gentle way but nothing in them to appeal to children!

Awful, twee shite anyway. Your kid would be bored senseless.

Comefromaway · 10/07/2020 00:38

How old is your daughter. My daughter started reading them around the age of 12.

There are a couple of Precious and the ....... books for children.

BlueberriesOnAStick · 10/07/2020 00:57

My daughter is 11. I've seen them mentioned in this section a few times. I think the last time was in a thread about books for a 12 year old.
I thought they sounded good but I think I should read them first then!
Thanks!

No probs.

I enjoyed them but they are for older than 11 for sure :)

Agree with the other posters, there are some violent themes although nothing in any way explicit. There's reference to children being abducted and killed for medicine..
