Looking for books for 3yo DD but not sure what to get because we have lots already.

DD is 3 1/2 and has a 6yo brother. I can find lots of things to buy him for Christmas on the Book People and Amazon and the like. But I can't really see much for DD. She has all DS's books - the full Gruffalo series, the tiger who came to tea, rumble in the jungle, guess how much I love you, the hungry caterpillar, all that sort of thing, plus some more girly fairy tales like Princess and the Pea, Cinderella, Snow White etc. She doesn't watch TV so isn't really into the Charlie and Lola or Lazytown type books. And I think in a year or so we will be reading chapter books.

Is there something missing that I should be buying her? What about Angelina Ballerina - she does have dancing lessons.

PeterDuck that look lovely. DD will like the way that it ties in with all the fairy tale characters. I will put it on my amazon list.

And that second one I think 6yo DS would like never mind DD.

My DD2 loved Angelina when she was younger, but her all time favourite (and it still is!) was The Bravest Ever Bear by Allan Ahlberg. I can highly recommend it!

I wouldn't rule out Charlie and Lola, we had the books long before it was a tv programme. My kids love them and I think your DD is about the right age. I know your problem though as I am struggling to find stuff for DS2 (3) because he has DS1 and DD's books.

Charlie and Lola was a book series before a TV series. Definitely popular with my dds at this age.

dd3 (3.5) at the moment particularly likes Chicken Licken, Billy goats Gruff, and some of the similar ladybird books - they're all the Early Readers, she doesn't read, but we had them for her sisters.

We have several of those actually fennel but once DS progressed past them I put them in the loft. But interesting what you say about Charlie and Lola also.

There's a lovely series of books about a bear that lives in a cave in the woods - Bear Snores On, Bear Wakes Up, Bear Wants More. Rhyming text and lovely clear illustrations. DS loves those. And have you discovered the Blue Kangaroo series by Emma Chichester Clark? I would have thought they would suit her down to the ground! Blue Kangaroo belongs to Lily and they have all sorts of adventures! And of course there's Harry and his dinosaurs - do NOT be put off by the vastly inferior tv series!

Do you want definitely to buy things? - what about library?

Picture books which are a bit more substantial than toddler books - John Burningham, Quentin Blake, Satoshi Kitamura - are a staple of children's libraries ... and you go through books like that so fast with a 3 and a half year old it might be helpful to have a big supply.

Here's another vote for Charlie and Lola, and also Lauren Child's other books. There's one called Beware of the Storybook Wolves, where fairytale characters come out of the book. It's a bit off-beat but my dd loves it.

Other top favourites are Mr Wolf's Pancakes and Mr Wolf and the Three Bears, both by Jan Fearnley. They are nice and gruesome and were worth every penny as I have read them to dd about a million times!

"Poems for the Very Young" edited by Michael Rosen has been a hit with ds of 3.9, and a breath of fresh air for me. Lovely pix with some fantastic, eccentric poems.

My kids (2.8 & 4.2) love Barefoot books. They especially like the ones with singqalng CD's. The animal Boogie and Walking Through The Jungle are their favourites. Take a look at www.mybarefootbooks.com/louisewhite

All mine love the Hairy Maclary Books by Lynley Dodd (there are also a load of books about the dogs friends). Also the Duck stories by Jez someone? And the Fergus the dog books. And Tescos had in loads of the Ladybrid books, ones like the Tweenies and Little red tractor, plus all the old tales for £1 a few weeks ago...I got loads!
