Horror book recommendations for young teen

DS used to be an avid reader but has lost interest quite a bit recently.

He has expressed interest in reading horror books but I have no idea what is suitable for his age. He doesn't want anything too childish but I'm wary of scaring the living daylights out of him with anything too inappropriate. I know a lot of Stephen King contain many sexual and abusive references so would rather avoid introducing those for the moment!

Any recommendations would be appreciated, thank you.

I don’t know if Goosebumps are abit young, but RK Steine has written some others in that genre for young teens. Point horrors mainly I think which he might enjoy

Ooh I loved point horror when I was a teen. RL Steine definitely the best.

definitely point horror. i loved them in my early teens. i actually dug mine out from the attic and read them all again when i was on maternity leave and had nothing to do. i think you can get them really cheap on amazon second hand.

The Enemy series by Charlie Higson
13 days of midnight trilogy

Lockwood and co by Jonathan Stroud - really good and quite scary ghost stories.

Thanks everyone

I'll definitely check out the point horror books

He's read the Charlie Higson Enemy series and a lot of the Lockwood and co books.

Not heard of the 13 days of midnight books so will take a look

My DS loves the Darren Shan books!

and I loved Point Horror at similar age, it was the pre-cursor to my love of Stephen King Smile

There are some SK books that would be ok for a 13 year old, I think I was around that age when I started on them - this is the list I started to make for DS of ones that are not too scary and no hardcore sexual references:

Eyes of the Dragon
Cell
Misery
Cujo
Firestarter
Pet Semetary
Different Seasons

Thank you, I've ordered a point horror for him, will see if he enjoys it then can stock up on some more.

And I'll look into some Stephen King teenage friendly books

I know I read lots of them myself but can't remember what age I started but think it was older than 13
