Looking for mystery or crime books

I am looking for a mystery or crime series or stand alone book to suit a fairly decent 10 year old. He loves stuff like this... but it has got to REALLY grip him... cliffhangers and excitement etc . anyone got any suggestions?

I assume you've done Alex Rider?
Cherub Series may also suit, but check them first as they've got bits in not all 10yos would cope with.

Virals by Brendon Reich are quite good. Time riders by Alec Scarow, both have a little syfy in them.

Phillip Pullman does a detective series - Sally Lockheart. I enjoyed them.

Skulduggery Pleasant has gone down a treat with my DCs. I thought not my cup of tea when I saw them reading them but then realised they are basically the YA version of the Rivers of London series which I love. :D

DD has been reading two sets from the book people. one is shapeshifters (I think that is the name of it) and the other one is codebreakers. will see if i can find links. I haven't really looked at them so not sure if they are what you are looking for but she is 11 and very hard to get her to read, she has really got into these and been sitting up late reading them.

My dd read Agatha Christy books that,she discovered in the library. They aren’t too gruesome as they are old and they are proper whodunnits. Some are better than others of course.

I would be interested in similar suggestions but for a 6yr old!

@Paddingtonthebear bear grylls has a series for younger readers too this one
Also the spy dog series (There are spy pups and spy cats ones too!)
And the Jack stalwart series kept us going for a while. Just watch out for the reissued covers as there are several cover versions of the same story.
