She likes murder mysteries and Harry Potter and wants something easy to get into. Thanks.

Thank you. I've never read Terry Pratchett. Are they fantasy?

DD loves the Robin Stevens too! There is also a newish one called Children of Castle Rock by Natasha Farrant that is very very good, but with her enjoying Robin Stevens Def try Ruby Redfort

BlueChampagne · 10/04/2019 13:05

Cressida Cowell "Wizards of Once"
Katherine Rundell "Rooftoppers"

Not murder mysteries but recently enjoyed by my 11 yo.

Ratatouille76 · 10/04/2019 18:41

Thank you. Got her the first Ruby Redfort today. She's broken her wrist and got a cold so is fed up and deserved a present.

Ah fab, hope she enjoys it. Tell her "Hang in there, bozo" Wink

Itwouldtakemuchmorethanthis · 10/04/2019 20:03

The Dark is rising
Chrestomancy series

BlueChampagne · 10/04/2019 21:23

Roman Mysteries if she hasn't already read them, ditto Lady Grace Mysteries. And how about Sherlock Holmes and Agatha Christie?

SomeLikeItTepid · 10/04/2019 21:41

I agree with the Tiffany Aching Discworld novels. I read them after finishing all of the other Discworld books and have kept them for my own daughter (who also loves the Harry Potter series)

BlueChampagne · 15/04/2019 12:36

Archie Greene is Potteresque

hels71 · 16/04/2019 12:27

DD is 11. She loves the Charlie Bone books by Jenny Nimmo, also the Crestomanci books, The Roman Mysteries and anything by Emma Carroll.

BlueChampagne · 17/04/2019 09:29

Keep an eye out for this www.bbc.co.uk/news/entertainment-arts-47883118

I second the Dark is Rising series, and anything else by Susan Cooper
Also anything by H.M. Hoover if you can find them.
The Skullduggery Pleasant series are sort of detective novels too.

DocusDiplo · 01/05/2019 01:11

Go to booktrust website - loads there to filter by age and new books too

Stephy97 · 01/05/2019 01:34

Absolutely. The Ruby Redford novels are fabulous. I love them as well! There is also a series that's English and features two schoolgirl friends solving murders etc at their school. Will have to double check the title and get back to you. My Harry Potter-addict DD also loves them. The Goth Girl series is also really good.

thewalrus · 02/05/2019 14:35

My girls love the Robin Stevens books too. Other favourites:
Wizards of Once (there are two)
Nevermoor (2 books)
Ruby Redfort
Lauren St John
Sinclair mysteries (Katherine Woodfine, I think, there are 4 of these)
The Land of Stories series.
The London Eye Mystery (by Siobhan Dowd, Robin Stevens has written a sequel but I can't remember its name)
