trying to remember an old childrens book about pie

I was reminded of a book I used to love when I was young but I can't remember the name of it and google is giving me nothing. It was about trying to make a huge meat pie, I think maybe trying to break a record or something. I think it was set in an English village. I can remember them trying to work out the logistics of the pastry, gravy etc. hope it rings a bell with someone!

Was this UK, and how many years ago approximately are we talking?

Well I’m Irish but I’m pretty sure it was an English book. We were reading it in the mid/late 90s i think

Yes, I remember it from the library in the 80s. I can picture the illustrations, very pale compared with todays ones.
