This might be a stupid question, but can anyone recommend a good children's book to explain about moving house?

Shirley Hughes’s “Moving Molly” is the one that springs to mind:

Molly is pleased at first when they move into a house with fields behind it, but soon she starts to miss the passers-by in their old busy street. Then she discovers that the next-door garden is full of adventure...

Can’t vouch for any of the others on this list, but as they’re recommended by a removal firm I assume they know what they are talking about. I love Mercer Meyer’s “What’s Do You Do With a Kangaroo”, but I haven’t heard of the the book of his that’s on their list.

'A New Home for Tiger' by Joan Stimson was read and reread countless times by our four-year-old when we moved house and she found it a very helpful and comforting way of coming to terms with all the change and a great way of looking at what 'home' means. It's a lovely gentle tale. It was a ten or so years ago so I don't know if it's still in print, but you should be able to get it second-hand.

Just tell them yourself?? Misses point of thread.

Thanks for the suggestions everyone.
Bilbodog, I have, but is struggling with the concept! (Keeps asking me "are we taking this toy? That toy? Even though I have explained that we will be taking everything!)

Usborne do a book about moving house. It’s been very popular with my customers and explains the whole process it’s got great illustrations too and the little duck hiding on each page

It doesn't explain it, but House in the Woods is a lovely story about a bunch of animals that build a new house and move in and it was great for ours to just make them excited for the move, and ready for the work of a complete redo

@Katd86 I moved House, at the age of 4 in the late 80s and had that book!! I loved it can still remember the pictures and looking for the duck.

Might be worth looking into OP obviously had an impact as I can still remember it 30 years later

@SallyCinnamon3009 if you still remember it now that’s fab. It’s a classic book! Great that it had an impact on you!

I'd also play some games where you make a 'home' from a cardboard box and make it lovely with their toys inside, then make another 'home' that's even nicer, and play at moving toys from one to another. Keep all the toys and effects together, stressing that they're a unit, wherever they are.

That Usbourne one about moving house sprang to mind, we had a few of those 'First Experiences' ones, the kids loved them

PragmaticWench · 06/09/2018 22:37

Sorry, I know that's not a book recommendation!

ILoveDolly · 06/09/2018 22:38

Look they do it as a sticker book too now! usborne.com/browse-books/catalogue/product/1/3297/moving-house-sticker-book/
