Blinking book day dress up advice needed!

DS is six, year 1. We had an idea of dressing him as his favourite character from his favourite book, but that's essentially just a boy with a ball cap on. Not too bad for me! But.. I had a brainwave tonight. He loves dressing in his camouflage 'army' t shirt, trackies and hoodies (thank you Primarni for stocking that)... is there an obvious character from a book that he could claim he is? I thought of Tommy from the Indian in the Cupboard, but he doesn't know the book yet.

Any ideas for famous toy/soldiers from younger children books that I could use for him to wear his favourite clothes for the day?

It might be a bit old for him, but does he maybe watch Horrible Histories on TV? In which case the Frightful First World War or the one about the Second World War (sorry, can't remember the title!) by Terry Deary might do.
Or Usborne do lots of excellent non fiction books for that age, including ones about the two world wars, which might do the trick.

Yes, brilliant! Why didn't I think of non-fiction books!? Thank you so much!
