Hmm we tried one of them and both dp and myself didn't like reading them the way they were written. Thanks though.

We have a cupboard full of a variety of new books, but when my step son was around 5 his Grandad gifted him some very old Noddy books. I really didn't think they were going to go down well, but up until this day (step son now 7) they're the only books that make him fall asleep whilst reading them! haha He use to say "Can we have a Noddy book as they make me fall asleep". Worth a try?

And unabridged Winnie the Pooh.

Shirley Hughes is popular here particularly the Alfie books
We also have a ladybird set of traditional fairy tales that were on offer from the book people
The worst witch series
Faraway tree

The owl that was afraid of the dark is absolutely lovely. Get the unabridged one for a few wry asides for parents ...

The Honey Bees Reward by Paul Vagg, my favourite after Room On The Broom
