I’m looking for adventurous survival stories

Ds2 (10) loves stories about surviving in the wild. If there’s an avalanche or volcano or something similar in the storyline, then that would be perfect.
Any recommendations please?

I'm not sure if it's age appropriate but Touching the Void is pretty good.

Kontiki expedition?
Jungle Books?

Bear Grylls has three fictional series for children: Mission Survival, Bear Grylls Adventures and New Jungle Book Adventures.

Your DS may also enjoy the non-fiction series of interactive 'you choose' survival books. There's are loads in the series, written by different authors. Here's the amazon link to the jungle one, but other titles (such as the tsunami, earthquake, desert...) are visible further down the page. www.amazon.co.uk/Can-You-Survive-Jungle-Choose/dp/1429673494?tag=mumsnetforum-21

Katherine Rundell’s new one, The Explorer, is a survival tale set in the Amazon.

Hatchet by Gary Paulson. I loved that book as a kid.
