Shapeshifter stories for young children

Can anyone recommend any stories about shape shifters suitable for a 4-5 year old, other than Barbapapa? Ideally shifting from human to animals.

I know it's quite a bizarre request!

We have some Barbapapa books, and after reading those we talked about the idea of people being able to change shape, and that lots of stories have been written about that. Naturally, she asked me to get some, and has been quite persistent about it.

She particularly likes wolves... but 4 seems too young for werewolf stories!

Thank you!

Folk tales and myths maybe?

DS likes Ali Sparke's Shapeshifter books but I would probably leave that until about yr2 as some tense moments.

There are elements of shapeshifting in Harry Potter but again the later books are quite dark and it is not a major focus. The first few books are ok for yr R/1 depending on the child.

Traditional stories about selkies, swan maidens and the like.

The Frog Princess. In this version, the shape shifting is given a twist, in that the frog becomes a princess, not the other way round!
The Monster Crisp Guzzler by Malorie Blackman. Jackanory Junior has a video of this on YouTube.
Stardragon by Moira Butterfield
The Princess and the Wizard by Julia Donaldson
The story of Matthew Buzzington by Andy Stanton
