Suitable thriller/murder books for 13/14yr DD

My DD is an avid reader and loves psychological thrillers/murder mysteries. She has a kindle and chose a book in the teen/young adult section that turned out to have graphic rape scenes (I read reviews before she got to it!). So I'm trying to find some that obviously don't have this kind of unsuitable stuff. She's about to read the Red Eye series (getting for Xmas - Lou Morgan, Tom Becker, Alex Bell) but I'd love any other similar suggestions.

Has she read the Robin Stevens books - Agatha Christie style whodunnits set in a girls boarding school?

The Moonstone by Wilkie Collins - original Victorian thrilling novel.

I was reading Agatha Christie at that age. I think I was fourteen when I moved on to Dorothy L. Sayers. Someone gave me The Nine Tailors for Christmas. It's not the first in the series, but it's a good standalone to start with. Other Golden Age authors she could try are Margery Allingham, Ngaio Marsh, Josephine Tey and Georgette Heyer - her crime novels, not her romances, although your dd might like those too. They're not at all graphic or explicit.

Josephine Tey wrote a brilliant book called Daughter of Time which I read at about that age. It's about a police inspector who is stuck in hospital recovering after an op and he looks for a historical crime to investigate. He ends up looking into who killed the princes in the tower. It's brilliant.

Agree with Harriet - I loved Agatha Christie when I was 14, also agree with Josephine Tey (Daughter of Time is brilliant, I also really enjoyed The Franchise Affair) and Margery Allingham.

I also really enjoyed the Cadfael books by Ellis Peters at that age.

Would she also like Sherlock Holmes?

Patricia Wentworth are very good and similar to Agatha Christie. The Door that led to Where by Sally Gardner investigates a 19th century poisoning through time travel. Ketchup Clouds also deals with a teenage mystery.

She could try the Virals series by Kathy Reichs - about Temperance Brennans neice Torry.
